STARSkate

Wow! You have achieved so much already!

DID YOU KNOW?

STARSKATE is actually an acronym for:

  • Skills
  • Tests
  • Achievement
  • Recognition

STARSkate covers the five skating disciplines – Skills, Dance, FreeSkate, Artistic & Synchro

In STARSkate you will amaze yourself on what you can do!

Smile, Enjoy yourself & above all have FUN!

What skater needs?

  • Layer! Layer! and Layer! Club or lined fitted jackets is a great way to go!
  • Good Quality Fitted Skates
  • Fitted gloves
  • Fitted pants like yoga or lined skating pants
  • Dry thinnies socks (change your socks before putting on your skates)
  • Chamois or Cloth to dry your blades
  • Blades Soakers
  • Hard Guards

Hair

  • Whilst Skating is exciting, don't forget to have your hair neatly done, like a ballerina.
  • Coaches and Judges wants to see your face, and you want to stay safe by seeing what's happening on the ice.
  • Make sure your hair will stay in place whilst moving around on the ice.

What time should skater arrive at the arena?

Consider time to

  • Warm up (running)
  • Dryland (jumps, spins, spirals, etc.)
  • Get dressed and change socks
  • Skates on
  • While having a good time with your peers.

It is recommended to have 15-30 minutes of “off-ice” for all STARSkate level skaters.

What can skaters bring with them on the ice?

  • Water bottles
  • Paper tissues
  • Binder with practice notes and pen
  • No gum, nor food on the ice
  • Your Smiles and Open Minds!

All phones need to stay in the dressing room or with your parents/guardian.

How often should I sharpen my skates?

The rule of thumb is to sharpen your skates after every 15-20 hours of use.

Avoid skating on the pond and/or lake with our skates.

Having a cheaper second pair of skates for the pond and lake family & friends skating will assure you are always ready to hit the ice for your STAR lessons.

Ask reference for having your blades to be sharpened by an experienced person. Figure skates and Hockey skate sharpening is very different.
