Congrats! Way to Go! You are now a Rising Stars (RS)

You have been identified as progressing very well and ready for advanced Skating Skills!

It is designed to serve as a transitional program leading to STARSkate.

Skaters will continue to learn the important basic in Rising Stars,

while progressing into the advance skating skills to prepare for either figure skating or other ice sports like hockey in a group setting.

Have Fun working towards completing the Rising Stars Badges.

Equipment:

  • Fitted skate with good support. Coaches can guide you in this process.
  • Layered Clothing, Fitted Jacket and pants are recommended. No Bell Bottoms pants.
  • Hair Pulled back in a ponytail and bangs away from the eyes.
  • Skaters below CanSkate Stage 5 must wear CSA approved hockey helmets.
  • NO Bike, ski, or other sports helmets.
  • Club or fitted jackets is a great way to go!

Can skater wear a helmet after completing Stage 5 CanSkate?

For skaters above Stage 5 Canskate that may be nervous about skating

without a helmet, you are welcome to leave your helmet on as long as you

like.

Your comfort & confidence are the most important thing!

How often should I sharpen skates?

The answer to this question is:

It depends on what Ice you have been skating on!  Let me explain, if you skate on a frozen lake your skates will need sharpening more frequently as there's debris that will dull your blades and make nicks that need to be removed.

If you skate on arena type ice pad, like you do in Rising Stars, then the rule of thumb is to sharpen your skates after every 15-20 hours of use

Try to find a company that sharpens Figure skates, Hockey skate sharpening is very different.

What can skaters bring with them on the ice?

At this Level, Skaters can have a water bottles (and paper tissues)

No gum, food on the ice.

All phones need to stay in the dressing room

What time should skater arrive at the arena?

Consider time to warm up, get dressed, and put skates on while having a chat with the other skaters.

It is recommended to have 15-30 minutes before Ice time.
